| What to Bring/Wear to Dance Class, Part Two Hip Scarves, Belts, Etc. While not required, if is often helpful to have something around your hips when learning to belly dance. This not only will accentuate the lines of your movements to make them more visible, but it will also make you more aware of your hips and help you focus on the movements. Plus, if you have one that jingles, you get immediate sound feedback when you move (and it's just fun!). There are all sorts of scarves available for practicing, both oblong and triangular. Some scarves have coins or beads crocheted into them or are fringed, but any scarf tied around your hips will work. There is no need to spend a lot of money unless you want to. You can even make your own with some fabric and bouillon fringe from the trim section of the fabric store. There are also many metal belts with coins or bells available that you can practice in. If you are interested in a practice scarf or belt (remember, it isn't required), you can often find them at Everest Tibet Imports in Old Colorado City, downtown Colorado Springs, and the Citadel and Chapel Hills Mall and Celebration New Age Store in Old Colorado City. Miscellaneous Items It is a good idea to bring a water bottle to class so that you don't get too dehydrated. Of course, please make sure the cap is on when you put it down so we don't end up with water everywhere. I also often like to bring a small towel to classes, just in case I start to sweat a lot. Some people like to bring a pen/pencil and notebook to class to write things down for themselves, but there won't be formal "notes." Belly dancing is something you generally learn by doing. And, of course, most of all, bring a good attitude and readiness to have fun!
